I touched the spring part of the toaster where I set the bread. After setting the bread, when the timer reaches zero, a ding! and the bread rises to the top of the toaster to show that it is cooked. The spring is very mechanically structured, but I realized that it is a good mechanism for something that only needs to be pushed in one direction and does not need to think about the other operation, or something that is automatic.
