Keith Sonnier

Untitled

Keith is a light artist, he sometimes uses videos and performance as well.

Sonnier achieved a drawing-like quality with his sculptures by employing materials such as latex, neon, and found objects.

He said

“I love light in my work but I was never influenced by neon signage in itself, rather its effect on nature and architecture,”

So his works are always inspired by nature and architecture and describe them with neon or other materials.

For Sonnier, the concept of space has been an important motive since the beginning of his career and a sculpture is more than merely an object on a pedestal; rather, he deals with the “sculptural conditions of space.

In Sonnier’s sculptures, the viewer is a pedestrian: he moves through the space and senses the light.

In “Floor-to-wall works” , he believes that one can move into the pictorial space, and in doing so, one becomes aware of the parameters of the space.

His sculptural objects can transmit or project light. He stresses the psychological aspects of the light in the viewer’s encounter.

I love the phrase he said “Whether it is clear and direct or not, according to the artist the light has an affect: “Light on the surface of the body affects the mind.”

His first objects were based on the five senses, how something felt, or looked...

It is same as my work theme. Then he noticed that there were different associations coming up.
